Worker killed at Zim gold mine

Caledonia Mining confirmed the death of one of its workers on 16 February at its Blanket gold operation in Zimbabwe.

The operator said the fatality was related to secondary blasting, but declined to elaborate further.

“Further details cannot be released pending the outcome of an enquiry into this accident by the relevant authorities,” Caledonia said, noting it is offering condolences to family and colleagues.

Construction of Blanket was first announced in August 2015. Its Central Shaft was completed and commissioned in 1Q21. The mine’s life at current is expected to extend to 2034.
