Emerson introduces Appleton Powertite to mining market

Emerson has confirmed it is now offering its Appleton Powertite series of pin-and-sleeve plugs, receptacles and connectors for the first time to mining operations for the delivery of reliable and safe power.

The series, which can offer fast, uncomplicated field assembly and worker protection, can aid in reducing costly downtime, frequent maintenance and accidents in areas where electrical equipment must perform without fail: in mining’s extreme environments.

Available in 30-, 60-, 100-, 200- and 400-Amp units, the Appleton Powertite plugs, receptacles and connectors supply power to all types of heavy-duty mining equipment, fixed or portable, including drills, shearers, crushers, conveyors, hoists, ventilation systems and pumps.

The weatherproof products carry a NEMA 4X rating and can excel in mining’s wet, corrosive environments where they can be installed with confidence.

Durable copper-free aluminum construction coated by an epoxy powder finish assures long-term protection against damaging dust, water, and debris. In addition, the contacts exert constant pressure along the entire contact surface to provide unmatched electrical continuity.

To keep mining operations safe, Appleton has incorporated features that include:

  • Energized contacts deeply recessed inside the terminal block reduce the danger of accidental touching and minimize the possibility of exposed arcs;
  • Positive polarization ensures that only plugs and receptacles of the same style, number of poles, and Amperage rating can be used together;
  • Style 2 plugs, receptacles, and connectors provide a ground through shell, plus an extra pole, so that the grounding pole “makes first, breaks last”;
  •  30 through 150 Amperage receptacles have a screw and flip cover for NEMA 3, 3R, and 4, 4X applications at no additional charge; and
  • Plugs and connectors have a variety of grommets with many cable diameters providing more application flexibility.
