Newmont confirmed that two members of its technical services team died at the Cerro Negro mine in the Santa Cruz region of Argentina on April 9.
Mine activities have been temporarily suspended.
Details regarding the cause of the deaths are currently under investigation. “Relevant learnings from the investigation will be embedded into Newmont’s safety standard,” the miner said.
Cerro Negro has three high-grade underground operating mines – Eureka, Mariana Central and Mariana Norte – and two underground deposits – Emilia, which reached commercial production in 2022, and San Marcos, which is currently being developed.
