Illinois-based MEVCO (Mining Electric Vehicle Company) has removed the cover from its new Rivian R1T EV Truck, introducing it to the mining industry at last week’s Elko Mining Expo in Nevada.
The company offered test drives of the mine-ready 2024 model at the event; MEVCO and Rivian first announced its global partnership for the vehicle in April.
MEVCO said its partnership with Rivian represents a significant step forward in the electrification of mining fleets.
“The Rivian R1T’s robust design and adaptability make it the ideal vehicle for the challenging environments of both surface and subterranean mining operations. This collaboration underscores MEVCO’s commitment to providing sustainable and efficient electric vehicle solutions that enhance safety and reduce environmental impact.”
The truck has also been awarded a Top Safety Pick+ by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It is the only pickup truck in the United States, electric or otherwise, to receive this honor.
“By integrating Rivian’s advanced technology with MEVCO’s expertise in mining-specific electric vehicles, we are setting a new standard for responsible and forward-thinking mining practices,” CEO Matt Cahir said.Source: MEVCO
