BHP confirmed that a contractor was fatally injured on the morning of 24 July at Peak Downs met coal mine in a vehicle-related incident. A second team member was also injured.
“This is a devastating tragedy which will be felt across BMA, BHP and the entire resources sector. We are providing support to the families and loved ones involved,” said BMA Asset President Adam Lancey, noting that the global miner is also working closely with Resources Safety and Health Queensland.
Peak Downs is a part of BMA, the 50/50 joint venture between BHP and Mitsubishi Development. The open-pit mine is located 31 kilometres southeast of Moranbah in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.
