West Virginia Coal Show announces job fair, wellness checks

As preparations continue for the third annual West Virginia Coal Show, scheduled for March 31-April 1 at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center in Charleston, W.Va., organizers have announced the return of an industry job fair and a mobile health clinic from Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH).

Workforce West Virginia, partner of the American Job Center network, is returning for a second year on March 31. Registration, just as with the coal show itself, is free and is included in your ticket. Visit www.wvcoalshow.com for more information on the fair and to register. Workforce WV is also still seeking companies that wish to recruit new workers; it encourages operators to contact Amy Crook at [email protected] for more.

Also, ARH will once again be exhibiting at the venue with its mobile clinic and will be offering free services to all registered coal show attendees. Those include skin cancer screenings, BMI testing, A1C testing and blood pressure checks.

The clinic staff will be available on March 31 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and April 1 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. No appointments are needed; walk-ins are welcome both days.

The clinic was made possible in large part by a $400,000 grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission. It travels throughout underserved areas in eastern Kentucky and southern West Virginia, providing essential services including primary care, health screenings, physical exams, chronic disease management, and education.

Once again this year, the West Virginia Coal Show is co-located with the West Virginia Coal Association annual symposium. A separate registration applies for that event; more information is available at wvcoal.com.
