Mining and construction operators in North America can now reduce pump wear by up to 70% and halve maintenance costs with an intelligent monitoring and control solution, according to Xylem.
Designed for dewatering in harsh environments, Xylem’s Flygt Pareo solution reduces equipment life cycle costs and improves the reliability and safety of pumping operations by making any traditional dewatering pump into a smart pump. The technology automatically responds to changing conditions to minimize pump wear and maximize efficiency.
“One of the biggest water management issues mine operators face is pump failure due to dry running, resulting in costly downtime. Adding intelligence to dewatering pumps provides operators with enhanced visibility and control, empowering them to get ahead of problems and improve operational efficiency,” said Ken Albaugh, director of sales and services at Xylem. “It also supports safety on the mine site by reducing the need for workers to service pumps in hazardous locations.”
An underground mine in the United States recently deployed Flygt Pareo to optimize its dewatering operations. Harsh conditions and abrasive solids were impacting the mine’s existing pumps, which were failing on a weekly basis. Operators combined the Flygt Pareo with new Flygt pumps and the system ran continuously for four months before requiring service.
Xylem showcased the solution at MINExpo in Las Vegas, Sept. 24-26. Xylem’s Flygt Bibo Alpha, a smart dewatering pump that delivers energy savings of up to 60% compared to traditional dewatering pumps, was also on display.
