Russia launches zinc concentrate plant

Following delays from a fire as well reports of U.S. sanctions, Russia has reportedly opened its new Ozernoye plant next to its largest zinc mine.

According to a Reuters report, operations began 3 September.

The 2023 fire complicated the search to replace Western equipment destroyed in the blaze given the difficulty of procuring it due to sanctions imposed on Moscow over Ukraine, the news service added.

Ozernoye is located in a remote area about 124 miles from the Mongolian border. Its capacity target is 6 million tons with output volumes of up to 600,000t of concentrate when at full capacity next year.
