Patagonia Gold, owner of the Cap-Oeste operation in the Santa Cruz province of Argentina, said its gold room was the target of a robbery last week in which thieves took off with doré.
Company officials said the incident occurred during the early morning of 17 April. About 500 ounces of gold equivalent (AuEq) were taken in doré, representing approximately one month of production from the Lomada and Cap-Oeste projects.
There were three employees who received minor injuries, though not fatalities were reported.
The mine’s production has been suspended as an investigation is performed and additional security measures are implemented. Patagonia said it reported the robbery to the appropriate Argentine officials and is working closely with the authorities to look into the incident.
Patagonia has mineral rights to over 430 properties in several provinces of Argentina and Chile and is one of the largest landholders in the province of Santa Cruz.
