Latin American gold producer Mineros has confirmed the temporary suspension of operations at its Nechi alluvial property in the Bajo Cauca region due to ongoing protests.
The miner said on 10 March that the protests have been active since 2 March and are being conducted by groups not associated with it. The disruptions are against measures being taken by the national government of Colombia.
Officials said production will only resume when it can ensure its employees’ and contractors’ safety and security. However, the company also has a close eye on its financial condition in the meantime.
“Any extended suspension of operations may negatively impact the company’s ability to meet its production guidance from the Nechi alluvial property,” Mineros said.
“The company will keep the market informed of further developments.”
Mineros’s asset base is in Colombia, Nicaragua and Argentina.
