Peru signs critical mineral pact with U.S.

Representatives from Peru and the U.S. have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their cooperation regarding critical minerals.

U.S. Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W. Fernandez and Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs Javier González-Olaechea met 29 August at a signing ceremony in Lima during Under Secretary Fernandez’s travel to Lima for bilateral engagements with the government of Peru.

“The MOU signifies the commitment from our governments to strengthen cooperation on critical mineral supply chains,” the two said. “The Memorandum sets the direction for further collaboration in critical mineral resource sector governance, investment, and global supply chain security.

“By signing this Memorandum, the United States and Peru advance our common interest in diversifying and securing global critical minerals supply chains.”

The intention of the pact is to enhance both governments, attract investments and secure global supply chains across the sector.
