New labor agreement reached at Caserones

Lundin Mining said an agreement has been reached with the union at the Caserones mine in Chile’s Atacama Region and accepted by the majority of the union members through a vote.

On August 12, one of the three unions representing approximately 30% of Caserones employees, or 5% of the total workforce at the mine, went on strike after not reaching a new collective bargaining agreement. As a result, certain activities were gradually reduced at the mine in a safe and orderly manner.

Now that a new collective bargaining agreement has been signed, the Canadian-based metals miner will focus on a safe back-to-work plan and an efficient ramp-up of operations since its been running at approximately 50% capacity during the labor action.

Caserones is an open-pit, copper-molybdenum mine located in the Vicuña District, an emerging world-class copper belt.
