Miner Marcobre, owner of the Mine Justa copper operation in the Ica region of Peru, has received certification from The Copper Mark.
The company said in a social media posting that the certification is good for three years. It is just the third mine, aside from Cerro Verde and Condestable, in Peru to earn recognition for its environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance.
“Having The Cooper Mark certification allows us to have external validation of our commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, strengthens our reputation, increases the confidence of our stakeholders and opens up new market opportunities for us,” said company general manager Luis Argüelles Macedo.
Certification by The Copper Mark follows a year-long audit of a mine’s operations, along with reports and verifications that it is meeting standards set by the group.
