K92 Mining said it has temporarily suspended underground operations at its Kainantu gold mine in the Eastern Highlands province of Papua New Guinea after a suspicious non-industrial incident on 10 March resulted in a death.
Processing operations, which were suspended following the incident, have resumed.
The miner said it is working with the relevant government authorities under the Criminal Code Act and Mining (Safety) Act to support their investigations.
On 13 March, the Mineral Resources Authority ordered a temporary suspension of underground operations through issuance of a “Form 29.” K92 has filed an appeal and expects this to be addressed shortly.
The Kainantu Gold Mine is a high-grade, low-cost underground mine within a 830-square-kilometre land package in a region known for Tier 1 deposits.
