South African miner Gold Fields has confirmed the early retirement of its chief financial officer and executive director Paul Schmidt.
The company said Schmidt will also be stepping down from its board of directors. Both changes were effective 30 April, though he will remain with the company through 30 June.
Alex Dall, currently the vice president of Corporate Finance, has been appointed interim CFO effective 1 May pending the appointment of a permanent CFO and executive director.
Schmidt was appointed CFO on 1 January 2009 and joined the board on 6 November 2009. Prior to his appointment as CFO of Gold Fields, he held the positions of acting CFO from May 2008 and financial controller from April 2003. He joined Gold Fields in 1996.
“The process to appoint the new CFO is progressing well and is in its final stages,” Gold Fields officials said. “The company will make an announcement as soon as negotiations have been finalised.”
