Caledonia Mining officials have confirmed the death of a miner at the Blanket gold mine in Zimbabwe.
While the miner was not identified, the company said the incident that took the worker’s life on 7 August was related to maintenance of trackless equipment.
It also noted the worker, who succumbed to his injuries the following day, was contracted to Blanket by GMG.
An inquiry into the event has commenced. The current operating status of Blanket was not disclosed.
Blanket first began production in 1904. A new central shaft at the operation began in August 2015, allowing increased production of 80,000 ounces in 2022 and extending the mine’s life.
