The Anjialing coal mine in the Shanxi province, operated by ChinaCoal Pingshuo Group, has reportedly turned the key on a 200-tonne pure electric dump truck.
According to a Xinhua report, the developer and producer of the truck is Hunan Xiangdian Green Energy Intelligent Control, which manufactures electric trucks and electric locomotives for the Chinese mining industry.
The vehicle can transport continuously for six hours on average per charge, and will save the operation 600 tonnes a year of fuel oil consumption. It also has the capacity to drop carbon dioxide emissions by 1,800 tonnes annually and reduce costs by an estimated 40%.
The mining company, per Xinhua, is planning additional purchases of the machines to further reduce energy consumption.
Coal output in Shanxi, China’s largest coal-producing region, accounted for about 26.9% of China’s total output during the January-September period of 2024, according to the provincial statistics bureau.
