A First Quantum Minerals copper-gold mine in Zambia and a Caledonia Mining gold mine in Zimbabwe have reported fatal accidents at their respective sites.
An employee at First Quantum’s Kansanshi operation near Solwezi passed away following a traffic accident involving a tracked dozer and a light vehicle. The miner said operations in the area of the accident have been temporarily suspended and will resume once it is determined that it can be done so in a safe manner.
Caledonia reported that an employee at its Blanket mine was hit by a fall of rock while drilling in a development area on September 21, and died as a result.
Both miners expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased.
