Lloyds Metals and Energy awarded Weir an order to supply 14 GEHO TZPM 2000 positive displacement (PD) pumps equipped with GLORES (GEHO Load Reduction System) for the second phase of its slurry pipeline project at the Surjagarh iron ore mine in Maharashtra, India.
“This win shows the strength of our technology. GEHO TZPM 2000 PD pumps are purpose-built for high-pressure, long-distance slurry pipelines,” said Tony Hendriks, global product manager, GEHO at Weir.
“This proven, high-capacity slurry pump technology supports Lloyds Metals’ planned future capacity increases without introducing additional technical risk, while also helping them achieve their objective to reduce their dependence on conventional logistics and leverage slurry transport to reduce both costs and carbon emissions.”
Lloyds Metals estimates that the pipeline solution is projected to avoid 69% of carbon emissions compared with road transport, delivering a significantly cleaner and more sustainable logistics pathway. The second phase of the project will see the pipeline stretch 200 km and add a further 16 million tonnes (MT) of capacity per year.
Weir previously supplied pumps for the first phase of the project – a 100-km pipeline with a capacity of 10 MTPY. That pipeline is now fully operational.
Surjagarh is India’s largest iron ore mine with 875 MT in reserves. Production capacity is set to reach 55 MTPY.
