BEML releases electric dump truck

BEML (Bharat Earth Mover Limited) has unveiled the first indigenous 35-metric-ton electric dump truck.

Released at its Mysore complex on April 10, the event was attended by Chairman and Managing Director Shri Shantanu Roy and others.

The truck, with a 60-tonne gross weight and designed for mining and heavy-duty operations, will deliver productivity without carbon emissions. Its wheels will move via multiple permanent magnet synchronous motors and its battery can be charged with a fast DC charger.

The company said that, being an all-electric indigenous dump truck, it will offer energy efficiency up to 90% better than a comparable diesel-powered truck. It also features regenerative braking, which will increase efficiency even more.

A high-power, 300-kWh lithium-ion battery will support a battery thermal management system.

All electrical items used in the truck are IP67/IP68-rated. A scalable charging structure, which supports fast charging, will allow it to charge from 0 to 80% within 60-90 minutes.

It will be sold through tenders and contracts for mining companies, quarries and more.

Bharat Earth Movers Limited is headquartered in Karnataka, Asia’s second-largest manufacturer of earthmoving equipment.
